“I don’t know how much of a big deal it is” – Gyakie responds to comments about not following anyone on social media

Ghanaian musician Gyakie has responded to comments about her decision not to follow anyone on social media.

Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, Gyakie explained that she does not consider the follow button important, stressing that her relationship with her fans goes beyond social media interactions.

“I really want to know how much of a big deal it is for that to happen. For me, I said to someone in one of the posts that what is really important is that the people who love me are not complaining. Those talking about it, I feel like they don’t know me,” she said.

According to her, the people who know her understand her, adding that she interacts more closely with her fans than many people realise.

“People who know me understand me, and I interact with my people way more. You will think I know them; I actually do know my fans a lot—their names and their faces. I am able to see them and spot them. I speak to them in their DMs. There are bigger connections than tapping a button,” she explained.

She further described her relationship with her audience as one built on genuine friendship, insisting that not following them does not affect the bond they share.

“I speak to them like they are my friends. They are not looking for that button. The follow button is not going to make or change anything if you think about it. It would be different if I didn’t interact with them at all. My audience and I are literally friends,” she added.
