Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has left Kenyans asking how he gets his information after fuel prices rose by exactly the amounts he mentioned hours earlier. On Wednesday morning he shared a post saying diesel would go up by 9 shillings and petrol by 12 shillings. The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority later announced the same changes.

In the post, Gachagua accused President William Ruto of ordering the increase. He alleged that cash is running out and that Kenyans demand money from the president everywhere he goes, including in the Rift Valley. He also claimed the situation got worse after a Zimbabwean he described as a crook died with his cash. He did not name the person or offer proof.

According to Gachagua, the extra money is meant for political bribery and will be processed through Gulf Energy. He further alleged that Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi had been instructed to call a press conference and justify the increase by citing global prices, which he called pure lies.
