Senator Sifuna, Babu Owino and Jack Wamboka Land in Kisumu Ahead of Raila Odinga’s First Anniversary
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Bumula MP Jack Wamboka have arrived in Kisumu ahead of the first anniversary celebrations of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga in Bondo, Siaya County.
The leaders are among prominent political figures expected to attend the commemorative events honouring Raila, who died in October 2025 after decades of involvement in Kenya’s political affairs.
Their arrival comes as preparations gather momentum for the anniversary activities, which began on October 13 and are scheduled to conclude on October 15, 2026.
The main ceremony is expected to take place at Kang’o ka Jaramogi, the Odinga family’s ancestral home in Bondo, where thousands of mourners, political leaders, friends and supporters are anticipated to gather to celebrate the life and legacy of the veteran opposition leader.
Raila, popularly known as Baba, remained a significant figure in Kenya’s political history, having participated in the country’s struggle for multiparty democracy and played a central role in several major political developments.
His influence extended across generations, with his political activities shaping national conversations on governance, constitutional reforms and democratic representation.
The anniversary gathering is expected to bring together leaders and supporters from different political backgrounds, providing an opportunity to reflect on his contribution to the country.
Members of the Odinga family, including Ida Odinga, have emphasised the importance of peace, unity and respect during the commemorations.
Political leaders attending the events have also been urged to avoid partisan exchanges that could distract from the purpose of the gathering.
Authorities are expected to coordinate security and crowd management as visitors travel to Bondo for the main ceremony.
The commemorations mark a year since Raila’s death, bringing together Kenyans seeking to honour his memory and reflect on his enduring place in the nation’s political history.
