Updated Salaries Plus Allowances KDF Officerss Earn Per Rank

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has a structured salary system in which military personnel earn different amounts depending on their ranks, responsibilities and service.

The military comprises three branches: the Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force and Kenya Navy, each with its own rank structure.

The KDF operates under Article 241 of the Constitution of Kenya and the Kenya Defence Forces Act of 2012, with the president serving as commander-in-chief.

According to salary figures published by TUKO.co.ke, monthly earnings range from KSh 7,172 for cadets undergoing training to more than KSh 900,000 for senior military officers.

In the Kenya Army, privates reportedly earn between KSh 19,941 and KSh 30,000 per month, while lance corporals receive between KSh 26,509 and KSh 50,000.

Corporals earn between KSh 32,250 and KSh 70,000, while captains receive salaries ranging from KSh 73,182 to KSh 110,000.

Majors reportedly earn between KSh 102,106 and KSh 150,000 monthly. Lieutenant colonels and colonels receive between KSh 130,735 and KSh 180,000, while brigadiers earn between KSh 153,317 and KSh 300,000.

At the senior level, lieutenant generals reportedly earn between KSh 632,984 and KSh 800,000 monthly. A full general can earn between KSh 894,897 and KSh 1.2 million, with additional allowances reported at KSh 336,000.

The Kenya Air Force and Kenya Navy also have their own rank structures, with senior officers receiving substantially higher remuneration than junior personnel.

Reported figures for the Air Force place an air vice marshal’s monthly pay at KSh 927,500, while an admiral in the Navy is listed as receiving a basic salary of KSh 695,625, alongside allowances of KSh 278,250.

The military also provides allowances depending on the officer’s rank, duties and circumstances.

However, the figures should be treated as reported estimates rather than a confirmed current pay scale, as actual earnings may vary depending on official salary reviews and applicable benefits.
