Two arrested over fatal stabbing of Kariokor Market shoe trader, bloodstained maasai sword recovered

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a shoe trader at Kariokor Market, in a breakthrough that has significantly advanced the investigation into the brutal killing.

The victim, Paul Mwangangi, was stabbed along Landhies Road, opposite the Muthurwa Market footbridge in Nairobi County, on October 12, 2026.

Officers who rushed to the scene found him lying face down with a fresh stab wound to the chest.

Crime Scene Investigation detectives processed and documented the scene to preserve evidence, while the body was transferred to City Mortuary pending autopsy.

Acting on actionable intelligence, detectives from DCI Central and Kamukunji, working alongside the Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Office, tracked the suspects to a hideout in Kayole, where they were arrested.

The suspects, identified as Joseph Kimani Ndungu alias Bajong and Peter Kimani Githinji alias Denoo, were escorted to Kamukunji Police Station and placed in custody pending further investigations and arraignment.

During the operation, detectives recovered a Maasai sword bearing bloodstains, suspected to have been used in the killing.

The weapon has been secured as an exhibit for forensic examination.

The DCI extended its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late Paul Mwangangi, reaffirming its commitment to pursuing all leads and ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.
