Tough Times Ahead as EPRA Announces New Changes in Fuel Prices for the Next One Month
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority has announced a sharp increase in fuel prices across Kenya, raising the cost of petrol, diesel and kerosene. The new prices are expected to put additional pressure on households, motorists and businesses that depend on fuel for their daily operations.
According to the revised prices, super petrol has increased by Sh12.93 per litre to retail at Sh226.96. Diesel prices have also risen by Sh9.90 to Sh227.76 per litre.
Kerosene has recorded the largest increase, rising by Sh28.49 to retail at Sh219.87 per litre. The adjustment is expected to affect families that rely on kerosene for cooking and lighting, particularly those who cannot afford alternative energy sources.
The latest changes come at a time when many Kenyans are struggling with the high cost of living. The increase in fuel prices is likely to create additional financial challenges for households already dealing with rising expenses.
Transport operators are among those expected to feel the impact of the new prices. Higher diesel costs could increase the expenses of public service vehicles, trucks and other commercial transport businesses.
If operators pass the additional costs to passengers and customers, Kenyans could face higher transport fares and increased prices for essential commodities.
Businesses that rely on transportation to move goods from manufacturers to markets may also experience higher operating expenses. These costs could eventually be reflected in the prices of food, construction materials and other household necessities.
The increase in kerosene prices is also a concern for low-income households that depend on the fuel for their daily needs. Families may be forced to adjust their spending to accommodate the higher energy costs.
Motorists, meanwhile, will have to spend more money when refuelling their vehicles under the revised pricing structure.
The latest adjustment by the energy regulator is likely to attract public attention, particularly among Kenyans concerned about the relationship between fuel prices and the overall cost of living.
As the new rates take effect, consumers and businesses will be watching closely to see how the changes affect transport costs, commodity prices and household budgets in the coming weeks.
The increases have renewed concerns about the financial burden facing ordinary Kenyans as essential expenses continue to rise.
