Taxi Boss and Restaurant Owner Killed in Gun Attack While Sitting Together

On Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at around 12:00 AM, two males were fatally shot and a third was injured at the Parkgate taxi rank in KwaZulu-Natal.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), members of the unit responded quickly to reports of gunfire in the vicinity. According to eyewitnesses, a gray vehicle drove away after multiple gunshots were heard. Although the car has been associated with the incident, the identities of those inside remain unknown.

Two men had been fatally wounded when the officers arrived. At the rank, they were characterized by their jobs as a taxi driver and owner of a casual eatery. Though he was severely injured, a second taxi boss managed to survive. Multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen were discovered on his person as he sat in a white Nissan bakkie. At the scene, RUSA paramedics administered emergency care and stabilized him before transporting him to a medical facility for additional treatment.

Subsequently, the wounded man recounted the events. He and his fellow taxi worker were seated with the proprietor of the food stand inside the eatery, he said. He claims that the three men frequently congregated there. An unidentified gray vehicle pulled up, interrupting their routine. According to him, the individuals within abruptly started firing at the gathering. The sound of gunshots and the departure of a gray vehicle are consistent with his and other witnesses’ accounts. Nevertheless, the complete details of the attack are still unknown.

Authorities found a projectile and two spent cartridge cases at the site. With these artifacts, they may be able to piece together the timeline of events and the weapons utilized.

In the initial report, neither the names nor the ages of the three men were disclosed, nor were any arrests cited. Who was responsible, the reason behind the targeting of the men, and why they were targeted remained unknown when RUSA made their statement. Many questions concerning the circumstances surrounding the shooting at the taxi rank remain unsolved, and two families are currently grieving. The survivor is still in the hospital.
