Soon You Will Need NPP or NDC Card Before Doctor Treats You – Prof. Smart Sarpong Cries Out
We are bringing politics into everything. If care is not taken, we may soon have to present our party membership cards at hospitals before receiving treatment.”
Those were the strong words of Prof. Smart Sarpong, Senior Research Fellow at Kumasi Technical University, and they should worry every Ghanaian.
Today in Ghana, everything is NPP and NDC.
School placement is politics. Recruitment into the police and army is politics. Market stalls are politics. Even what should be free health care is becoming politics.
You go to a hospital and someone asks, “Who brought you?” You go to look for a job and they ask, “Who is your party chairman?” You go to apply for a scholarship and they check your party colours first, not your grades.
Prof. Sarpong is right. We are sick with politics.
Think about it. What will happen if a sick mother in labour is told to show her party card before a doctor will touch her? What will happen if an accident victim bleeding on the road is asked whether he is NPP or NDC before the ambulance moves?
That is where we are heading if we don’t stop.
A hospital should not know your party. A classroom should not know your party. A job interview should not know your party. The only thing that should matter is that you are a Ghanaian who needs help.
Prof. Smart Sarpong did not say this to support any party. He said it because he loves this country. Both NPP and NDC are guilty. We have all turned our nation into a football game between two colours.
If we continue like this, one day there will be no Ghana left, only party offices.
We must take politics out of our hospitals, our schools, our jobs and our daily bread. A sick Ghanaian is a sick Ghanaian. Help him first. Ask about his party later.
