Adjoa Pee Reveals Why She Still Relies On Pragya Despite Four Decades In Acting

Veteran Ghanaian actress Adjoa Pee has opened up about the difficulties she has faced despite spending almost four decades in the Ghanaian movie industry, revealing that she still does not own a car.

The actress, whose real name is Helena Maame Adwoa Petreba Pieterson, said she currently relies on a commercial auto-rickshaw, popularly known in Ghana as a “pragya”, for transportation.

Speaking about her circumstances, Adjoa Pee appealed to anyone who could help her acquire a car, noting that she is approaching her 65th birthday in October.

She also recounted a frightening experience she had while travelling in a pragya with her child on a rainy day.

According to the actress, the vehicle overturned during the journey, throwing both her and her child into muddy water.

“I am approaching 40 years in the acting industry, yet I don’t even own a car. In October, I will turn 65, and I still don’t have a car. Somebody should buy me a car,” she said.

Adjoa Pee said the incident has added to the difficulties she has experienced, although she maintained that she does not regret choosing acting as a career because of her passion for the profession.

She also reflected on the financial challenges that confronted actors during the early stages of her career, saying some performers received such small payments from producers that the experience could be discouraging.

The actress further spoke about support for veteran entertainers and said President John Dramani Mahama had taken steps to assist some people in the industry. She claimed, however, that she had not benefited from the support and alleged that some individuals had prevented her from meeting the President personally.

Those claims about access to the President are her account and have not been independently established.

Adjoa Pee also previously made allegations concerning financial assistance she said Mahama provided for her medical treatment. She claimed that Mr Beautiful delivered GH¢2,000 to her but deducted money for transportation. The allegation has not been independently established, and reports on the matter noted that Mr Beautiful’s response was not included.

While discussing her relationship with government officials, Adjoa Pee praised Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang for being accessible to her. She said the Vice President returns her calls when she misses them. The Vice President is officially identified as Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

Despite her frustrations, Adjoa Pee said the affection she receives from fans whenever she appears in public gives her encouragement and remains one of the rewarding aspects of her long acting career.
