John Darko Speaks on GH¢5m SIC Settlement After Being Questioned by EOCO Investigators
Suame Member of Parliament John Darko has denied any involvement in a post-judgment settlement between SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited and Equity Savings and Loans Limited that allegedly caused financial losses to SIC.
The denial follows his appearance before investigators from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, to assist with ongoing investigations into the matter.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 14, his lawyers at Darko, Keli-Delataa & Co explained that the questioning focused on his work as legal counsel for Equity during its dispute with SIC over a matured but unpaid investment, as well as his tenure on Equity’s board from 2015 to 2023.
According to the law firm, Darko informed investigators that his legal practice’s involvement was restricted to the litigation and the recovery of part of the judgment awards in SIC’s favour.
The firm maintained that it had no role in subsequent negotiations or settlements between the parties.
The lawyers further stated that their client and his firm had no knowledge of Equity’s decision to transfer land under judicial attachment to Eco Swiss Investment Limited, a third party.
They explained that the firm had ended its legal engagement with Equity over unpaid professional fees before the developments surrounding the post-judgment settlement took place.
The statement also stressed that Darko had ceased to be a member of Equity’s board by September 2023 and was not involved in any decision to compromise the court judgment in a manner that would deprive SIC of the benefits of its legal awards.
The clarification comes as EOCO investigates an alleged criminal conspiracy involving SIC Savings and Loans, centred on a settlement reached in July 2024 by SIC, Equity and Eco Swiss Investment Limited.
Under the agreement, SIC reportedly accepted GH¢5 million as full and final settlement of a revised judgment debt of GH¢14.85 million.
EOCO has estimated the potential financial loss associated with the alleged conspiracy at approximately GH¢27 million.
The investigation has also implicated Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, who has been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, intentionally causing financial loss to a public body and money laundering.
Darko’s legal team reiterated that its client remained willing to cooperate fully with EOCO and provide any additional information required by investigators.
The lawyers also praised the investigators for their professionalism and the courtesy shown to their client during the questioning.
They maintained that Darko and his firm had conducted themselves ethically and professionally throughout their engagement with Equity, insisting that their actions had been guided by the standards of professional responsibility.
