Petrol And Diesel Prices Expected To Fall From October 16 – COMAC
According to a report by JoyNews today being Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Petrol and diesel prices in Ghana are expected to decline from October 16, 2026, while Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is projected to record a significant increase of 18.5 per cent, according to the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC).
The anticipated changes are expected to bring different effects for consumers, depending on the type of petroleum product they purchase. While motorists and businesses that rely on petrol and diesel could benefit from lower fuel costs, households and commercial users of LPG may face increased expenditure.
According to COMAC, the expected reduction in petrol and diesel prices could provide some relief to vehicle owners, transport operators and businesses that depend heavily on fuel for their daily activities.
Petrol is widely used by private motorists and commercial drivers, while diesel powers many heavy-duty vehicles, generators and industrial equipment. A reduction in the prices of these products could help ease some operating costs for transport companies and other businesses.
However, the projected 18.5 per cent increase in LPG prices could create additional financial pressure for households that depend on the product for cooking. Restaurants, food vendors and other businesses that use LPG may also have to spend more to maintain their operations.
LPG remains an important household energy source in Ghana, particularly for people seeking alternatives to charcoal and firewood. Consequently, a substantial increase in its price could influence household budgets and the cost of preparing meals.
Changes in petroleum prices are generally influenced by several factors, including international crude oil prices, exchange-rate movements, the cost of refined petroleum products and other components of the domestic fuel pricing system.
The expected adjustments from October 16 could therefore affect consumers differently, depending on their energy needs and spending patterns.
Motorists and other fuel users are encouraged to pay attention to price announcements from their preferred fuel stations, as actual pump prices may vary among oil marketing companies.
Although the projected reduction in petrol and diesel prices could offer some relief, the anticipated increase in LPG costs may offset part of the benefit for households that rely heavily on cooking gas.
