John Boyega reveals he’s been married for nearly two years, announces birth of his first child

British-Nigerian actor John Boyega took to social media to announce the birth of his first child after initially revealing he has been married for nearly two years.

Boyega, 34, initially disclosed his marital status during an interview with The Guardian, where he mainly opened up about the killing of his childhood friend and a documentary about the incident.

The Star Wars actor confirmed he was married when asked about a ring on his left hand.

“Oh yeah, this is my wedding ring,” Boyega said. “I’ve been married for coming up to two years now.”

And though he did not reveal his wife’s identity at the time, he all but confirmed he’s married to model Tae Heckard, 48, when he announced the birth of their child in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

Boyega posted a carousel of photos that includes him and Heckard posing with her baby bump. A video also appears to show Boyega caressing their child.

“Our bundle of joy has been with us for some time now but thank you for all the well wishes. Also my sister is about to pop! Wish her well too!” he captioned. “Back to feeding this big baby!”

Boyega told The Guardian he was expecting a son, adding that he already has a stepson.

“So, you know, my life is completely, completely fulfilled in terms of family,” he said. “It’s been so nice with the timing.”

Boyega further provided details on why he had two wedding rings, as the one he wore in the interview wasn’t the same as what was on his hand for the documentary.

“Yeah, this is our very sentimental ring,” he explained. “This is the one we decided to pick up spontaneously because I just wanted the ring on my finger, so we went to Walmart to get this. It was a lovely trip to Walmart. Shout out, Walmart Canoga Park!”

Boyega, whose parents are Nigerian, disclosed that their wedding ceremony wasn’t huge. He, however, said he “would love to have a wedding celebration.”

“We both like the idea of celebrating something established, rather than celebrating the entry,” the Pacific Rim Uprising star added. “And by then, we’ll have to shut Nigeria down!”
