YORK COUNTY, S.C. (WBTV) – A heavy police presence formed near the North Carolina-South Carolina state line on Wednesday.
The presence began to form around noon on Oct. 14, on Lloyd White Road, between Windsong Forest Road and Crowders Creek Road. The scene is just on the South Carolina side of the state line in York County.
A host of law-enforcement officers had Lloyd White Road shut down. Several York County deputies were spotted and appeared to have crime scene tape across the roadway.
Officials did not immediately say what happened; however, a person who lives in the area told WBTV he heard someone speeding down the road before he then heard a crash and 15-20 gunshots. That person then said he saw an ambulance come down the road.
One man said he saw and heard shots being fired and ducked for cover.
“My mind was to hide … to get behind something,” the man said.
Authorities have not confirmed if there was a crash, nor if any shots were fired in the area.
The area where law enforcement had the road shut down is just a few hundred yards from the state line.
