Gachagua trained his fire on Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, claiming the minister had been instructed to hold a press conference, attributing the price increases to global oil market conditions.

If Gachagua's claims are true, petrol prices will retail at KSh 226.03 and diesel at KSh 226.86.
He dismissed the official explanation as fabricated, insisting that the additional revenue generated by the hike was destined for vote-buying rather than any legitimate policy objective.
The former deputy president used colourful language to characterise what he described as the President's deteriorating political standing, citing public rejection over alleged abductions, extrajudicial killings, theft of public funds, poor economic management, and policy failures.
He further alleged that the president had been resorting to distributing cash at public appearances, including in his home region in the Rift Valley, and that this financial pressure had intensified following the death of a foreign associate he described as a "Zimbabwean crook" who allegedly held funds on Ruto's behalf.

Gachagua concluded his statement by warning the president that the political consequences of the August 10, 2027 election were becoming an unavoidable reality.
The statement marks the latest in a series of public broadsides from Gachagua since his removal from office through an impeachment process in October 2024.
He has since positioned himself as a vocal critic of the administration and has been building a political base ahead of the next electoral cycle.
In related developments, the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) flagged a notable increase in crude oil prices ahead of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority's (EPRA) scheduled monthly fuel price review on October 14, 2026.
In its weekly bulletin released on Friday, October 9, the CBK reported that Murban crude oil, the benchmark used to determine Kenya's pump prices, rose to USD 101.67 (KSh 13,134) per barrel on October 8, up from USD 95.76 (KSh 12,371) per barrel recorded on October 1.
The CBK attributed the sharp one-week jump to supply concerns stemming from ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
