Digital Culture: Mr. Drew Clarifies His Statements Regarding X Space and Responds to Trolls

The Ghanaian Afrobeats musician Andrew Commey Otoo has publicly clarified that his recent heated exchanges during a live X (formerly Twitter) Space session were directed at online trolls rather than his core fanbase. Mr. Drew is his stage name. The artist addressed the public backlash that resulted from the circulated audio excerpts from the virtual fan interaction in an entertainment report published by GhanaWeb on Wednesday, October 14, 2026..

Following a live session on October 12, during which Mr. Drew disagreed with participants about the tone and boundary settings used during public discussions, the controversy arose. In the audio that was widely disseminated, the singer expressed her strong opposition to contempt from anonymous accounts, emphasizing that accessibility on digital platforms should not be used to encourage targeted provocation or dismissive commentary regarding an artist’s age and career.

Mr. Drew, in a subsequent statement, conveyed his profound appreciation for his devoted supporters and advised fans to refrain from misinterpreting his defensive stand. He emphasized that his comments were directed at intentional agitators who were attempting to disrupt the conversation, which further solidified his commitment to cultivating a positive and respectful relationship with his genuine audience.

Live interactive platforms have been observed by media analysts and public relations consultants to offer unprecedented levels of fan engagement. Nevertheless, they also pose obstacles for public figures in order to effectively manage real-time cyberbullying, underscoring the importance of strategic communication and boundary enforcement in online public spaces.
