Florence told our daughter to stay away from me because i would sleep with her – Obinim alleged

According to report by Ghanaweb on Wednesday 14, October 2026, Managing Editor of the ‘Insight’ newspaper, Kweku Baako Jr., has criticised the growing practice of religious preaching and the aggressive distribution of religious messages on public transport, arguing that passengers should have the freedom to travel without being subjected to unsolicited sermons.

Speaking on Metro TV’s *Good Morning Ghana* on October 14, 2026, Mr Baako expressed concern about the frequency of religious activities on public buses, particularly during long-distance journeys. He said passengers who pay for transportation should be allowed to use their travel time according to their preference, whether to sleep, work, read, listen to music or simply enjoy a quiet journey.

He stressed that Ghana is a religiously diverse country and that the existence of religious freedom does not give individuals the right to impose their beliefs on others.

“Now, in Ghana and in the world, there isn’t just one religion. There are hundreds of religions. Even Christianity, there are many, many different versions of Christianity and so on,” he said.

Mr Baako specifically cited journeys between Accra and Kumasi as an example, noting that travelling between the two cities can sometimes take several hours. According to him, the physical and mental strain associated with long-distance travel can be significant, and passengers should not be subjected to additional pressure through compulsory religious activities.

“These days, sometimes it takes six hours to get to Kumasi; the stress of the journey itself, and they are adding on the stress,” he stated.

He argued that while individuals have the right to practise and share their faith, such rights must be exercised with consideration for people who may not wish to participate.

Mr Baako also questioned the appropriateness of conducting religious activities on state-regulated public transportation, insisting that respect for religious freedom must be balanced with respect for the freedom of others.

He further called for greater order and regulation at bus terminals, suggesting that some activities carried out under the guise of religion should instead be addressed through proper institutional regulations.
