Dangote Refinery Swings To $4.7bn Profit, Revenue Soars 144% To $22.5bn
LAGOS – Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has recorded a dramatic financial turnaround, posting a net profit of $4.73 billion for the nine months ended SeptemÂber 30, 2026, against a loss of $117.2 million in the corresponding periÂod of 2025, as revenue surged by 144 percent to $22.5 billion.
The performance marks a maÂjor milestone for Africa’s largest refinery, which has moved from a loss-making operation into a highly profitable industrial enterÂprise, strengthening its financial position at a critical time when it is seeking to broaden ownership through a landmark Initial Public Offering (IPO).
The company’s unaudited fiÂnancial results, released in Lagos on Tuesday, showed that revenue rose from $9.2 billion in the first nine months of 2025 to $22.48 bilÂlion in the period under review, reflecting increased refining throughput, improved operationÂal reliability and stronger refining margins.
Earnings before interest, taxÂes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) climbed nearly ninefold to $5.52 billion from $627.6 milÂlion, while the EBITDA margin expanded significantly to 24.56 percent from 6.83 percent a year earlier.
Operating cash flow also surged more than tenfold to $3.68 billion, compared with $364.7 milÂlion in the corresponding period of 2025, underscoring the refinÂery’s growing capacity to convert its operations into cash-generating earnings.
The strong cash generation translated into a substantial imÂprovement in the company’s balÂance sheet. Cash balances rose to $6.69 billion as of September 2026, from $809.5 million a year earlier, while its financial position swung from net debt of $1.73 billion to net cash of $650.8 million.
The shift into a net cash posiÂtion signals a significant strengthÂening of the refinery’s financial flexibility, potentially providing greater capacity to fund expanÂsion, support working capital requirements and withstand volÂatility in international crude oil prices and refining margins.
The latest results also indiÂcate that the refinery’s earnings momentum strengthened considÂerably in the third quarter, sugÂgesting that the facility is moving beyond its initial commissioning and production ramp-up phase towards more stable commercial operations.
Revenue increased from $13.91 billion at the end of June to $22.48 billion by September, implying third-quarter revenue of approxÂimately $8.57 billion.
Similarly, EBITDA rose from $2.60 billion at the half-year mark to $5.52 billion at the end of SepÂtember, indicating third-quarter EBITDA of about $2.92 billion.
Net profit also climbed from $1.82 billion at the end of June to $4.73 billion by September, transÂlating into an additional $2.90 bilÂlion in earnings during the third quarter alone.
The figures suggest that the refinery’s capacity to generate profits has improved alongside the expansion of its commercial operÂations, reinforcing its strategic imÂportance to Nigeria’s downstream petroleum industry and the wider African energy market.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote PeÂtroleum Refinery and PetrochemiÂcals, David Bird, attributed the perÂformance to higher throughput, improved operational stability and stronger gross refining marÂgins.
“Our third-quarter perforÂmance demonstrates the sucÂcessful transition from commisÂsioning and ramp-up activities to sustainable commercial operÂations,” Bird said.
“Revenue increased to US$22.5 billion from US$9.2 billion in the corresponding period of 2025, while EBITDA rose to US$5.5 bilÂlion from US$627.6 million, reflectÂing higher throughput, improved operational reliability and stronÂger gross refining margins.”
Bird said the results validated the strength of the company’s integrated business model and provided a solid foundation for its next phase of growth.
According to him, the compaÂny remains focused on expanding its refining capacity, broadening its product portfolio and strengthÂening its distribution network across African markets under its Vision 2030 growth strategy.
“With our expansion proÂgramme already underway, we reÂmain focused on increasing refinÂing capacity and broadening our product portfolio. We will continue to strengthen our distribution netÂwork across Africa and support enÂergy security across the continent, while creating long-term value for stakeholders,” he stated.
The financial performance comes as the refinery advances its IPO, which is designed to open up ownership of one of Africa’s most ambitious industrial investments to a wider pool of investors.
The Securities and Exchange Commission recently approved an extension of the offer period from October 13 to October 27, 2026, to accommodate growing investor interest and facilitate wider parÂticipation across Africa.
The offer comprises 4.1 billion ordinary shares at N525 per share, representing an offering valued at approximately N2.15 trillion.
President and Chief ExecuÂtive of Dangote Industries LimitÂed, Aliko Dangote, had disclosed that subscriptions to the offer had exceeded the company’s original fundraising target, explaining that the objective was to enable more Africans to own a stake in the refinery rather than merely raise additional capital.
The latest results provide inÂvestors with fresh insight into the company’s earnings capacity, cash generation and financial reÂsilience as they consider participaÂtion in the offering.
