UEFA Youth League: Ogunnaike scores as Arsenal suffer 3-2 defeat to Lille

According to a report by Football London on Tuesday October 13, 2026, Nigeria-eligible defender Joshua Ogunnaike was on target for Arsenal’s Under-19s as they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Lille in the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old defender scored in the 28th minute to restore parity for the young Gunners after Ismael Camara had given the French visitors an early lead.

Ogunnaike finished off an impressive team move, with Emerson Nwaneri picking him out in a promising position before he fired a powerful effort into the back of the net.

However, Arsenal’s celebrations were short-lived as Lille responded with two goals before half-time. Yeli Traore converted from the penalty spot before Saad Boussadia added another to give the visitors a 3-1 advantage at the break.

Arsenal improved after the restart and reduced the deficit 12 minutes into the second half through Elijah Upson, giving the hosts hope of salvaging a result.

The young Gunners continued pushing for an equaliser, and with 14 minutes remaining, Theo Odaji Ukueku came off the bench to replace Mylo Bernard, making his UEFA Youth League debut.

Despite their efforts, Arsenal could not find a third goal and were forced to accept defeat.

Ogunnaike’s goal was a positive moment for the defender despite the disappointing result, while Ukueku’s debut provided another highlight for Arsenal’s youth side.

Other Nigeria-eligible youngsters involved in the match included Ifeoluwa Ibrahim, Hakeem Abubakar, Emerson Nwaneri and Andre Harriman-Annous, underlining the presence of Nigerian talent within the club’s youth ranks.
