Nigerian troops under Operation HADIN KAI have repelled a late-night assault by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on their Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Garaha, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Security sources confirmed that the insurgents launched the attack around 9:07 pm on October 12, 2026, advancing on foot from the Lar axis.
The soldiers responded swiftly, mounting a counter-offensive that forced the terrorists to retreat.
Four insurgents’ bodies were later recovered at the scene, while further operations are ongoing to assess the full extent of casualties. Five soldiers sustained injuries during the encounter.
Recovered items from the fleeing terrorists included a PKT machine gun, six AK-47 rifles, 11 magazines, three PKT ammunition belts with 67 rounds, 157 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a 60mm mortar bomb, an Infinix phone, a Canon video recorder, camelback water bags, and assorted clothing.
Military sources said the failed assault marks another setback for ISWAP, as troops remain on high alert to defend bases and communities across the North-East.
