Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has predicted a possible political crisis and ethnic tensions if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election.

The cleric in a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, said the aftermath of such an outcome could trigger prolonged political instability, with consequences that might take a long time to resolve.

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai arrived at the Kaduna State High Court on Tuesday for the resumed hearing of his corruption trial, appearing shortly before noon amid tight security. He was accompanied by Isa Ashiru, the African Democratic Congress governorship candidate for the state. The appearance followed a directive from Justice Darius Khobo ordering the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which has held El-Rufai in custody, to produce him in court after he was absent from Monday’s proceedings.

El-Rufai has remained in ICPC custody since 18 February 2026 over allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure as governor from 2015 to 2023. The hearing resumed days after the Court of Appeal in Kaduna dismissed his challenge to the High Court’s refusal of bail, upholding the lower court’s decision and leaving him in detention. Prosecutors had expected him in court on Monday, but he requested access to his personal physician to review medical test results, prompting the judge’s order for his production the following day.
