Ruto’s Ally Heckled in Parliament

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah faced a hostile reception from lawmakers allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after launching fresh attacks against the politician’s supporters, triggering sharp exchanges and visible political tension.

The Kikuyu Member of Parliament was heckled by Gachagua’s allies, who openly expressed their displeasure with his remarks. The legislators shouted, “Ichung’wah, use your brains!” demanding that he stop attacking the former deputy president’s supporters.

The lawmakers accused Ichung’wah of repeatedly targeting Gachagua and his political allies instead of concentrating on issues affecting ordinary Kenyans. They argued that his continued criticism was worsening divisions among leaders from the Mount Kenya region.

The confrontation reflected growing political disagreements within the Kenya Kwanza coalition following Gachagua’s impeachment. The former deputy president’s removal from office created rival political camps, with competing leaders seeking to maintain influence across Central Kenya.

Gachagua’s supporters have increasingly challenged leaders perceived to be undermining their political camp. Their latest reaction to Ichung’wah’s remarks demonstrated their unwillingness to remain silent as disagreements over regional leadership and political loyalty continue to intensify.

The legislators also called for greater respect among political leaders, arguing that personal attacks were unnecessary and could undermine unity within the region. They urged Ichung’wah to exercise restraint when discussing Gachagua and his supporters.

However, Ichung’wah maintained his position, insisting that political leaders should be held accountable for their statements and actions. He has consistently defended his criticism of rival political factions, arguing that leaders should not escape scrutiny because of their political affiliations.
