Roger Goodell hints Eagles play international games because Jalen Hurts is ‘the face’ of the NFL

A huge endorsement from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for Jalen Hurts, whom he described as the global face of the league.

The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a heartbreaking loss in London, with the Jacksonville Jaguars pulling off an incredible walk-off field goal in overtime to seal victory for themselves.

The Eagles are one of the many teams playing international games this season, and Jalen Hurts is apparently a huge reason for this.

Speaking to 94 WIP at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell explained why the Eagles are prominently featured in their international games.

Goodell explained that the Eagles are a popular franchise, and in the eyes of their global audience, Jalen Hurts is the face of the NFL, and thus, there is a demand from their international fans to see him play in front of them.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, speaking with ESP in London, says featuring the Eagles is “intentional.” “Jalen Hurts is a face of the league—not just here, but around the world.” pic.twitter.com/03nZnTUdJL

The Commissioner said: “Well, it all starts with the leadership. Jeff Lurie (Eagles owner) believes very strongly in the international aspect of our game and bringing our game to our fans around the globe. It’s intentional. The Eagles are obviously a very popular team in the States but also globally.

“Jalen Hurts is the face of the league, not just here, but around the world. So many of our other players are starting to realise how this is a great way to build their brand. That’s really beneficial to them, ultimately, and the league…

“Fantastic. I’m so proud of our players in general. They’re all fantastic. Not just what they do on the field. It’s really more what they do off the field.

“Jalen cares deeply about the game, as the rest of our players do. They have a very important perspective on the game that is valuable to me and others in helping us get better at everything we do.”

This is a rousing endorsement from Goodell, and Hurts will no doubt be thrilled to hear the Commissioner of the NFL speak so highly about him.

Since he became the starting quarterback for the Eagles in 2021, Hurts has become one of the biggest names in the league.

His ability to lead the Eagles to multiple Super Bowls, including a win in the 2024 season, has cemented his status as one of the most popular NFL players today.
