Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos joined by new family member on Live! as daughter Lola reacts

LEAVE A COMMENT Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are toying with the idea of expanding their family – and they were joined by a special new addition during an episode of Live! on October 12.

Mark appeared on set cradling an adorable puppy named Lucas, and the dog sat on his lap for the first few minutes of the show. "It is Columbus Day, it is Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and it is, let me remind you, Mark is a Shih Tzu Man Day," Kelly said. "We’re doing Adoption Week here at the show, which, as you know, we have adopted both Chewie, our beloved, may she rest in peace, Chewie, and our beloved Lena."

"Oh, boy. I know. Lucas is pretty cute" said Kelly. "Mark walked into my dressing room this morning with Lucas in his arms, and I saw a different you. I saw a kinder, gentler you."

According to Live's website, Lucas is "a 4 month old Shih Tzu who was recently rescued from a puppy mill. He just loves everyone and would make a great family pet."

It seems the couple already have plans to change the pup's name. "I was thinking Javi would be a good name for him, Javier," Mark said, to which Kelly replied, "This is trouble. He’s naming this dog that we have not adopted."

Kelly explained that in the past, she's always preferred to own female dogs. "I think because we’ve only had girl dogs," she shared. "Boy dogs are great. And they get along better with the female dogs. They say that, in the house. That’s what they say," added Mark.

The ABC star then teased that her and Mark could potentially take the dog home with them. "Lena, she’s on her way here to meet Lucas/Javi. We will see," she said.

During The Inbox segment at the end of the episode, fans attempted to persuade the couple to adopt Lucas. Kelly read one fan message: "Hey, Kelly. We have rescued a number of dogs over the years, and I have to tell you that the male dogs love their mamas. Mark has Lena. Now, you have your Javi."

Mark then shared another message from a viewer: "Looks like a new family member to me. I have always had male and female together, and it’s perfect. I also find male dogs are more affectionate. Go for it."

The couple previously adopted their dogs, Chewie and Lena, when they each appeared on Live! during dog adoption segments.

Following the show, Kelly took to Instagram to share a sweet video of her dog, Lena, meeting Lucas. "When Lena Met Javi (Lucas)," Kelly captioned the post. The couple's daughter, Lola Consuelos, was quick to react to the post. "So is javi (lucas ?) a consuelos????" she penned in the comments section. Kelly and Mark are yet to confirm whether they have adopted Lucas.
