Report: Real Madrid confident of finalizing the signing of Barcelona target

Real Madrid are reportedly confident of beating Barcelona to the signing of Manchester United youngster JJ Gabriel, with the Spanish giants hoping to secure a deal for the highly rated teenager.

According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Madrid believe they are in a strong position to sign the 16-year-old, who has attracted interest from several major European clubs following his development in Manchester United’s academy.

The club’s optimism is reportedly linked to progress regarding Gabriel’s eligibility to move to an EU club. Obtaining an Irish or Cypriot passport could prove crucial, as documentation issues have emerged as a major obstacle to a potential transfer.

Gabriel is reportedly considering leaving Old Trafford after Manchester United were unwilling to meet his demands, which allegedly include guaranteed first-team opportunities and a lucrative contract.

Barcelona remain interested in signing the youngster, while Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have also been monitoring his situation. However, the latest report suggests Real Madrid are increasingly confident of winning the race for his signature.

A move is reportedly being considered for the January 2027 transfer window, with Manchester United expected to receive approximately £350,000 in training compensation if the teenager leaves the club.

Despite Madrid’s reported confidence, no final decision has been made, and Barcelona remain in contention. Gabriel and his family will ultimately decide his next destination as the battle for the young forward’s signature continues ahead of the winter transfer window.
