Reasons Why Koffi Olomide and Mbilia Bel Reportedly Clashed At Fred Machoka’s Golden Jubilee Concert

A concert organised to celebrate veteran broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka’s 50 years in broadcasting has attracted attention following reports of a disagreement between Congolese rhumba stars Koffi Olomide and Mbilia Bel.

The event was held on Saturday, October 10, at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi, attracting thousands of music lovers who turned up to celebrate Machoka’s remarkable career in the media industry.

The star-studded lineup featured Koffi Olomide, Mbilia Bel, Sam Fan Thomas, Les Wanyika, Them Mushrooms, Alicios Theluji and Freshly Mwamburi. Renowned media personalities Jeff Koinange and Churchill served as the event’s hosts.

However, reports of backstage tension emerged after the concert programme reportedly ran behind schedule, creating a disagreement over which of the two Congolese musicians would perform first.

According to sources familiar with the event, both singers were reportedly ready to take the stage when organisers asked Mbilia Bel to allow Koffi to perform first. She allegedly declined, and her team proceeded with her performance.

A leaked programme circulating online reportedly indicated that Mbilia Bel was scheduled to perform at 8.35 pm, while Koffi’s performance was planned for 10 pm.

The incident reportedly left Koffi and his team unhappy backstage. The two musicians have also been associated with a longstanding rivalry, with reports of sharp exchanges between them in previous interviews.

Further attention emerged after Koffi completed his performance. Machoka invited the celebrated musician to remain on stage, dance and participate in cutting the anniversary cake.

However, a video shared online showed Koffi raising his hands and walking away as Machoka attempted to persuade him to stay.

While some reports attributed his departure to fatigue, others linked it to the alleged earlier disagreement.

Neither musician has publicly confirmed the claims, and both completed their performances as fans enjoyed the celebrations.
