Update on Oburu’s Health: Babu Owino Should Be Held Accountable If Anything Happens to Oburu, Mosiria Says

Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has raised concerns over social media posts about the health of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Oburu Oginga, warning Embakasi East MP Babu Owino that he should be held accountable if anything happens to the veteran politician.

In a strongly worded Facebook post, Mosiria questioned why bloggers were allegedly spreading claims about Oburu’s death while Babu was publicly wishing him a quick recovery.

Mosiria mentioned bloggers Maverick Aoko and Oga Ekene in his accusations, alleging that political actors were using online platforms to spread distressing narratives about the elderly ODM leader.

He claimed that a similar pattern had emerged before the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, suggesting that the situation surrounding Oburu was raising similar concerns.

Mosiria accused Babu of allegedly using bloggers to advance political interests and warned that anyone responsible for spreading harmful information about Oburu should be held accountable.

He also expressed concern about the impact of such reports on an elderly leader who is recovering from health challenges, urging politicians and their supporters to respect his dignity and allow him to recover peacefully.

The allegations against Babu and the bloggers have not been independently verified, and there is no confirmed evidence establishing that Babu instructed anyone to circulate false reports about Oburu.

Oburu’s health has attracted public attention in recent weeks following reports of medical visits and his absence from some public engagements.

On October 6, 2026, his secretariat dismissed reports claiming that he had died, describing them as false and malicious. The office said he was alive, safe and in good spirits while following his doctors’ advice to rest and limit strenuous activities.

More recently, ODM Secretary General Catherine Omanyo also addressed public speculation about his condition, saying the party leader was receiving medical care and urging Kenyans to disregard misleading reports circulating online.

Mosiria concluded his message by wishing Oburu a quick recovery and calling for respect towards the veteran politician and his family.

The controversy has renewed debate about responsible political communication and the need to verify sensitive information before sharing it online, particularly when it concerns someone’s health or death.
