According to a report by Soccernet on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the Super Falcons of Nigeria advanced to the third round of the 2028 Olympic qualifiers after defeating Comoros 5-0 in the second leg of their second-round tie at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
Nigeria secured a 7-0 aggregate victory to continue their quest for a place at the 2028 Olympic Games, with Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu scoring twice each before Christy Ucheibe completed the scoring from the penalty spot.
The 10-time African champions entered Tuesday’s encounter with a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, following goals from Michelle Alozie and Kanu. They maintained their attacking approach in the return fixture and eventually broke the deadlock shortly before half-time.
Payne opened the scoring in the 41st minute after Kanu applied pressure on the Comoros goalkeeper and won possession before setting up her teammate. The forward took advantage of the opportunity to put Nigeria ahead and give the hosts a 1-0 lead at the interval.
The Super Falcons continued to control proceedings after the restart and extended their advantage in the 57th minute. Kanu rose to meet a cross from Folashade Ijamilusi and headed the ball into the net to make it 2-0.
Nigeria increased the pressure on their opponents, with substitute Blessing Okpe contributing to the next goal. Payne converted an opportunity created by Okpe in the 63rd minute to register her second goal of the match and extend the home side’s lead to three.
Kanu subsequently completed her brace in the 66th minute, once again finding the net with a header from an Ijamilusi cross. The striker’s second goal of the evening made it 4-0 and further underlined Nigeria’s superiority in the encounter.
The Super Falcons completed their five-goal performance in the 72nd minute after Okpe was fouled inside the penalty area. Ucheibe stepped forward to take the resulting spot-kick and converted calmly to establish a 5-0 lead.
The victory confirmed Nigeria’s progression to the third round with a commanding 7-0 aggregate score across the two legs.
The Super Falcons will now prepare for a third-round meeting with Morocco, scheduled for March 2027, as they continue their campaign to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games.
