MP Jayne Kihara Sounds Alarm Over Alleged Plot by Ruto to Divide Mt Kenya, Names Ndindi Nyoro
Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara has accused President William Ruto’s allies of attempting to weaken the opposition by creating divisions within the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Kihara claimed some politicians were being used to advance a political strategy aimed at splitting the region’s opposition support, warning that the alleged scheme could undermine efforts to present a united front against Ruto.
As reported by People Daily on Tuesday, October 13, the lawmaker drew parallels between the alleged manoeuvres and political tactics employed by former President Daniel arap Moi’s administration during the introduction of multiparty democracy in the 1990s.
She argued that the recent political activities in Mt Kenya were part of a broader effort to create competing interests within the region, which has become a key battleground ahead of the next election.
Kihara, a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, also questioned the political intentions of People’s Party of Kenya leader Ndindi Nyoro, suggesting that his role within the opposition deserved scrutiny.
The Naivasha MP claimed Nyoro’s political approach resembled tactics allegedly being used to advance the government’s interests, although she did not provide evidence to substantiate the accusation.
She alleged that an earlier attempt to divide the region, which she linked to Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, had failed, prompting the emergence of another strategy.
Kihara also claimed Nyoro could face arrest in the coming days, alleging that such a move might be intended to generate sympathy for him among voters.
The lawmaker maintained that a united opposition posed a political challenge to Ruto’s re-election ambitions, arguing that the presence of multiple parties with competing interests could weaken its influence in Mt Kenya.
She cited the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election as an important moment in the region’s political calculations, claiming the outcome had forced government allies to reconsider their approach.
She accused the government of failing to meet the expectations it had raised during the 2022 election campaign and urged voters to examine the records and intentions of politicians seeking their support.
Kihara called on opposition supporters to remain vigilant against leaders she believes could undermine their political objectives as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
