KPLC Warning: Prepare for Long Hours of Power Blackout Today, If You Live in the Following Areas

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has issued a fresh notice to customers regarding planned electricity interruptions scheduled for Tuesday, October 13, 2026, with several residential, commercial and institutional areas expected to experience power outages lasting several hours.

The maintenance exercise will affect selected areas in Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu and Nandi counties, with some customers expected to remain without electricity from as early as 8.00 a.m. until 5.00 p.m.

KPLC has advised residents, businesses and institutions in the affected locations to make arrangements in advance to minimise disruptions to their normal activities during the scheduled maintenance.

The planned interruptions could affect businesses that rely heavily on electricity to operate machinery, serve customers and maintain their regular services throughout the day.

Households and institutions that depend on a steady electricity supply are also expected to take note of the scheduled outage periods and prepare for the interruption before maintenance work begins.

In Nairobi, KPLC has listed parts of Ngara and Westlands among the areas expected to experience an electricity interruption from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

The affected locations include sections of Kolobot Road, Taarifu Road, Ojijo Road, Westlands Hill, Chiromo Road, Muthithi Road and Mpaka Road. Customers around Woodvale Road, ABC Bank, Paramount Plaza and neighbouring areas are also included in the notice.

The Nairobi interruption is expected to affect customers in sections of busy commercial neighbourhoods, making it necessary for residents and businesses to organise their activities around the eight-hour maintenance period.

In Kajiado County, KPLC has scheduled an even longer outage affecting customers around Nkoroi and Matasia. The interruption is expected to run from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Areas listed in the Kajiado notice include Kimani Road, Gataka Road, Mayor Road, Masai Lodge Road, Nazarene University, Olekasasi, Tuala, Sigma Feeds, Emakoko, Kedlenye and surrounding customers.

Selected parts of Kiambu County will also experience an electricity interruption today, with the outage scheduled from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. KPLC has identified part of Rumenye, the Safaricom Data Centre and nearby customers among those affected.

Meanwhile, customers around Olessos Technical in Nandi County are expected to experience a shorter interruption. The scheduled outage will run from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m., affecting Olessos Technical, Timbili, Cheptuingeny and neighbouring customers.

KPLC has urged customers in all the affected areas to charge essential electronic devices before the scheduled interruptions and organise electricity-dependent activities around the announced maintenance periods.

Businesses may also need to make temporary adjustments to their operations to minimise the impact of the outages, particularly in locations where electricity is expected to remain unavailable for most of the working day.

Residents, traders and institutions in the listed areas are therefore advised to review the KPLC notice carefully and make the necessary preparations for today’s scheduled maintenance.

Customers in areas facing the longest interruptions are especially encouraged to plan ahead, as the outages could affect normal household, commercial and institutional activities for several hours.
