“I Saw Amaechi And Atiku Going To A Filling Station To Buy Fuel, What Nonsense Is That?” – Wike

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has described the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ADC vice presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi visits to filling stations and roadside vendors as political theatrics.

Speaking in a media coverage by TVC News, “Nigerian politicians love to play to the gallery. Some people want to present themselves as if they are humble when they are not humble. I saw Amaechi and Atiku going to a filling station to buy fuel, what nonsense is that? I mean, which people are you deceiving? Will you buy fuel again at the filling station when you are elected? For me, you are insulting the intelligence of Nigerians when you do that,” he said.

Wike also faulted Amaechi for buying corn and coconut from roadside vendors during public outings, describing the gestures as a calculated attempt to project a man-of-the-people image.

He argued that Nigeria has matured beyond the era when wealthy politicians could fool voters by pretending to live like ordinary people, and that such theatrics does not address the real challenges facing the country.

According to him, what Nigerians are actually looking for is not gestures at filling stations or roadside markets, but a clear account of what the opposition would do differently from the current administration if given the chance to govern.
