How Former GSU Officer Erustus Chemorei Was Killed Over KSh 6.4 Billion Cocaine – What Really Happened
Former GSU officer Erustus Chemorei met his death in a case that has continued to raise questions years later, with fresh claims linking his killing to cocaine worth KSh 6.4 billion that had been seized by police.
According to details shared on X by @CopShakurkihara, police had seized cocaine that belonged to a powerful person in government at the time. The politician was said to be well-connected and also worked closely with senior police officers.
Erustus Chemorei, who was a senior police officer, was the officer entrusted with the keys to the store where the seized cocaine worth KSh 6.4 billion was being held.
Claims made in the post allege that corrupt senior police officers, together with the powerful politician, conspired to get the drugs back from police custody. As part of the alleged plan, Chemorei, who has also been referred to as Seronei in some reports, was reportedly set up and labelled as a dangerous criminal who robbed people using government equipment.
More than 50 police officers were allegedly sent to his home in Trans Nzoia in an operation that ended with him being shot dead.
At the time, police claimed that Chemorei was a dangerous criminal who had attempted to escape arrest and was linked to a series of robberies and possession of illegal firearms.
However, according to the account shared online, he was a good police officer who wanted to do things the right way and his only mistake was having custody of the keys to the store holding the multi-billion cocaine haul.
Following his death, an official inquest was conducted into the circumstances surrounding the killing. The inquest later found that Chemorei had been unlawfully executed, contradicting the initial police narrative that he was a dangerous criminal.
The case of Erustus Chemorei remains one of the most controversial cases of alleged extrajudicial killing linked to drug trafficking in Kenya’s history. His family has continued to seek justice years after his death.
By the time of publishing, no senior officer had been convicted over the alleged conspiracy to recover the KSh 6.4 billion cocaine.
