Hearts attack must improve – Kapor
The Head Coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, Nebojša Kapor, says his side could have won Sunday’s Ghana Premier League (GPL) game against Port City FC by a wider margin if they had taken the chances created.
In his view, the attackers didn’t have a good day as they messed a number of scoring opportunities.
“They were profligate in front of goal. Ivorian import Mamadou Kader Kourouma, Henry Kweku Boateng and Yaw Amankwaa Baafi were the main culprits. As you witnessed, they wasted a lot of the chances to score more goals. As the coach, I’m unhappy about the situation. We would work on that aspect of their game this week.”
He said this at the post-match press conference after Hearts returned to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 victory over Port City.
Frank Duku scored the only goal of the game in the 20th-minute with a headed goal.
He, however, noted that the team has room for improvement and would work on it at the training ground.
In order to establish and maintain a winning streak, he said it was important to work on the finishing.
“We could have finished the game in the second half. Kader Kourouma, Kweku Boateng and Amankwaa Baafi had chances to score. We had several counter-attacks from which we could have scored to end the game ahead of time.”
Kapor stressed that the condition of playing surfaces remained a wider concern for domestic football, noting that a return to the Accra Sports Stadium would improve their fortunes.
“I think the Accra Sports Stadium is the most suitable venue for us to play our home games. I am sure that can help us a lot but until then, we’ll continue to work with what we have.”
While congratulating his team on the victory, the Serbian trainer thanked the fans for turning up in their numbers to support the team and urged them to come out in greater numbers as Hearts travel to Tema New Town to face Vision FC on Sunday.
The win over the Akim Kukurantumi based Port City FC, moved Hearts to second place on the league table, three points behind leaders Medeama SC, while Port City dropped to fourth place.
