Femi Asante Opens Up on How Husband’s Stroke Changed Her Life and Separated Her From Her Children

Lawyer and entrepreneur Femi Asante has opened up about the profound changes in her life following her husband Nana Asante Bediatuo’s stroke, explaining how the medical emergency forced her to reorganise her daily routine and adjust her priorities.

In a podcast interview with The Peswa, Femi revealed that her husband suffered the stroke shortly after she arrived in London, prompting her to return to New York to attend to the situation.

The incident also disrupted family life, as her younger children remained behind for six months while she navigated the challenges associated with her husband’s illness.

“When my husband suffered a stroke, I had just arrived in London when I got the call, and I had to head back to New York, and for six months, my younger children were here,” she said.

Femi explained that the experience significantly altered her responsibilities and daily activities.

She credited her faith in God with helping her cope with the difficult period and continue supporting her family.

“My whole life changed, like everything just changed. My daily routine, what I had to do, what I had to prioritize and stuff, but I just kept going because God’s grace carried me through,” she said.

Despite the emotional and practical challenges, she said her husband’s determination and resilience throughout his recovery had been a major source of inspiration.

She expressed admiration for the progress he had made since suffering the stroke, particularly his ability to regain essential functions, including walking and speaking.

According to Femi, witnessing her husband’s recovery has strengthened her appreciation of his determination to overcome the difficulties associated with his condition.

She described him as the stronger person in their journey, praising his courage and commitment to regaining his independence.

She also reflected on how far he had come since the medical emergency, noting that his progress had reinforced her faith and reminded her of the importance of perseverance during difficult times.

Nana Asante Bediatuo, a former Executive Secretary to ex-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, reportedly fell ill in 2024 while in the United States.

At the time, the Office of the President issued a statement addressing rumours surrounding his health, confirming that he had been hospitalised but was in stable condition and responding positively to treatment.

According to the statement, Bediatuo had remained in New York after the conclusion of the 79th United Nations General Assembly to attend to additional government business, having participated in Akufo-Addo’s delegation to the international meeting.

The Presidency further indicated that medical assessments showed his recovery was progressing as expected, expressing optimism about his eventual return to full health.
