Duncan-Williams Shócks Ghanaians As He Goes After Popular NPP Member, Sues Him For Defamation

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams has taken legal action against Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, over alleged defamatory comments made during a broadcast on Ohia TV.

His lawyers are demanding GH¢10 million in damages, claiming the remarks were baseless and harmed the Archbishop’s public image.

Abronye, who serves as the NPP’s Bono Regional Chairman, allegedly accused the Archbishop of criminal conduct during the programme.

Addressing the matter on GBC1’s Focus, Duncan-Williams’ lawyer, Dr. Ernest Danquah, firmly denied the allegations and said no evidence had been presented to substantiate them. He explained that the lawsuit seeks to safeguard the Archbishop’s reputation and promote accountability for potentially defamatory statements.

Dr. Danquah added that allegations capable of damaging a person’s reputation should not be made without supporting evidence, particularly when they concern prominent individuals and religious leaders.

The lawsuit follows other legal challenges involving Abronye, including a GH¢20 million defamation case brought by journalist Samson Lardy Anyenini.

Meanwhile, the NPP has publicly separated itself from the disputed comments. General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong clarified that Abronye’s remarks reflected his personal views rather than the official position of the party.

The controversy has prompted calls from some groups for disciplinary measures against Abronye and a formal apology from the NPP.

There are also reports that Abronye faces a separate legal matter concerning bail conditions connected to investigations by EOCO and the NIB.

The defamation suit is expected to be heard at the Accra High Court. According to Duncan-Williams’ legal team, the proceedings are part of efforts to protect the Archbishop’s reputation from alleged public attacks.
