FC Barcelona were among the biggest winners of the night, beating Galatasaray 4-1 away from home to maintain their impressive start to the season.

The Blaugrana have now won ten consecutive games across all competitions, including eight in the domestic league and two in the Champions League.

Lamine Yamal delivered a brace of assists to strengthen his pursuit of the Ballon d’Or title, playing a crucial role in Barcelona’s impressive comeback.

Despite the big win, the Spanish champions had to do it the hard way. They went behind in the 28th minute, with Alexey Batrakov putting Galatasaray ahead.

However, Barcelona responded in impressive fashion. João Cancelo drew parity before the break, while Fermín López, Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi finished off the game to silence the intimidating Galatasaray fans.

The victory handed Galatasaray their first home defeat of the season, while Barcelona continued their impressive run across competitions.

Manchester United endured a torrid time at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, suffering a 2-0 defeat to Atlético Madrid.

Atlético made an early statement when Pablo Barrios scored in the opening minute of the game, putting the Spanish side in control from the outset.

United’s troubles deepened when Leny Yoro was sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity after pulling back Jonathan David, who had been played through on goal. The red card was issued following a VAR intervention.

Ademola Lookman completed the scoring in the 79th minute, tapping into an empty net from close range after Senne Lammens’ full-stretch save from David’s effort fell kindly to the Nigerian forward. Despite pressure from Diogo Dalot, Lookman made no mistake to double Atlético’s advantage.

Manchester United have now gone five games in all competitions without a win. Their last victory came against Sabah, whom they defeated 4-0 in their opening Champions League game almost a month ago.

The result adds to the pressure on United as they continue to struggle for consistency, while Atlético secured an important victory against English opposition.

Elsewhere, Arsenal continued their impressive record in the Champions League league phase, brushing aside French side Lille 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

The game ended goalless at the break, but an inspired performance from substitute Bukayo Saka helped turn the contest around.

Jurriën Timber opened the scoring with his first goal of the season before Eberechi Eze got in on the act, feeding off Saka’s pass to double the advantage.

Saka, who had turned provider for the second goal, completed the scoring to secure Arsenal’s second win in the competition.

The Gunners are seeking to win the Champions League for the first time in their history after falling short in last season’s final against Paris Saint-Germain.

In Norway, Bayern Munich battled to a dramatic 3-3 draw against debutants Viking FK in one of the night’s most entertaining encounters.

The home side took a surprising 2-0 lead against the six-time Champions League winners. Gianni Stensness shocked the visitors after just two minutes before Peter Christiansen doubled the advantage shortly before half-time.

Bayern responded after the break, with Harry Kane scoring a quick brace to bring the German giants level before Luis Díaz completed the turnaround.

However, Michael Olise received two yellow cards within a minute and was sent off, giving Viking an opportunity to fight back.

The Norwegian side capitalised on their numerical advantage, with Herman Johan Haugen striking late to secure a 3-3 draw and earn Viking their first-ever point in the Champions League league phase.

At the Giuseppe Meazza, Club Brugge produced one of the biggest surprises of the night, beating Inter Milan 4-3 in a thrilling encounter.

Nicolò Tresoldi stole the headlines with a hat-trick as Brugge secured their first win of the Champions League campaign.

Lautaro Martínez scored a brace for Inter, while Ange-Yoan Bonny also found the net. However, Romeo Vermant restored Brugge’s two-goal advantage at 4-2 before Bonny reduced the deficit.

Despite Inter’s late push, Brugge held on for a memorable victory, leaving the Italian side without a point after two games in the league phase.

The result was a major setback for Inter, who will now have to respond quickly to avoid falling further behind in the race for automatic qualification.

Elsewhere, Villarreal secured their first win after a ten-match wait in the competition, stretching back to last season, by beating Napoli 2-1 at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

RB Leipzig also recovered from their heavy defeat against Como in their previous Champions League outing to beat Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven 1-0.

Earlier in the day, Sabah recorded their first-ever league-phase victory by beating Slavia Prague 2-0, while Sporting CP secured a vital 2-0 away win against Lens.

The second round of league-phase fixtures will continue on Wednesday, October 14, with nine more matches scheduled across Europe.

The standout encounter will see Manchester City host reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain in a heavyweight clash between two sides with ambitions of going all the way in the competition.

Real Madrid will also face a difficult away test against Roma, while Liverpool travel to Austria to take on LASK.

Aston Villa welcome Fenerbahçe, Borussia Dortmund travel to Norway to face Bodø/Glimt, and Porto visit Real Betis.

The remaining fixtures will see Feyenoord host Como, Shakhtar Donetsk face AEK Athens, and Slovan Bratislava take on Stuttgart.
