Chelsea Star Urged To Leave Club In January

According to a report by Metro on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin has advised Estevao Willian to consider leaving the club during the January transfer window if he continues to struggle for regular playing time.

The Brazilian youngster has found it difficult to secure a starting place in the Premier League this season, with new manager Xabi Alonso yet to hand him a start in the competition. Alonso’s 3-4-2-1 formation has also made it challenging for the 19-year-old to establish himself in the team.

Estevao’s limited playing time has raised questions about his future at Stamford Bridge, with reports suggesting that the winger could become frustrated if he remains on the sidelines. The competition for attacking positions is also strong, with Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers among the players ahead of him in the battle for places.

Nevin believes a move away from Chelsea could give the teenager a better chance to develop his talent, especially if he cannot get the minutes he needs under Alonso.

Speaking about Estevao’s situation, Nevin said: “There are places that would suit him better than the Premier League and certainly better than Chelsea. Would you go to another Premier League club? There are very few that would suit. I really do think so. I actually can think of one, though. I can think of one, but they can’t afford him. Should he probably leave Chelsea in January? Yes. He needs game time and he’s not [getting that].”

The former Chelsea winger’s comments suggest that the club may need to reconsider how best to manage Estevao’s development, as regular football is important for a young player hoping to reach his full potential.

However, Chelsea must also decide whether allowing the Brazilian to leave, even temporarily, would benefit both parties. A January move could offer him more opportunities to play, but the club may be reluctant to lose a talented youngster who could become an important part of their plans in the future.
