Barcelona receive official message from Gvardiol and Bastoni alternative
Barcelona have received an encouraging message from Brazilian defender Arthur Dias amid reports linking the Athletico Paranaense youngster with a potential move to the Spanish giants.
According to a report by FootballTransfers.com on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, the 19-year-old has attracted interest from Barcelona as they continue searching for a left-footed centre-back after missing out on Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol and Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni during the summer transfer window.
Dias has emerged as one of South America’s promising young defenders after helping Athletico secure promotion to Brazil’s top flight in 2025.
He has continued to develop this season, making 30 appearances as his club compete near the top of the league standings.
His performances have also earned him recognition at international level. Dias made his senior Brazil debut in September, coming on as a substitute during a 4-2 friendly victory over Australia before starting alongside Marquinhos in a 4-0 win against India earlier this month.
The defender has now spoken about the interest surrounding his future, while making it clear that his immediate priority remains Athletico.
“I am very happy that clubs are interested in me. It means I am doing a good job on the pitch, but I always say that without my teammates and coaches, I wouldn’t be where I am,” Dias said in comments carried by Spanish publication SPORT.
He also admitted that playing in Europe’s biggest club competition remains an ambition.
“Of course, I want to win trophies and grow, but I am very happy here [at Athletico]. Every player dreams of playing in the Champions League one day, of competing in such a massive tournament.
“However, right now I am fully focused on Athletico. I leave those matters [regarding transfers] to my agent.”
According to SPORT, sources in Brazil value Dias at around €12 million (£10.1 million), while his contract with Athletico runs until the summer of 2028.
Barcelona’s interest comes as Hansi Flick continues to oversee an impressive start to the campaign. The Catalan club have won their opening nine matches across all competitions, scoring 39 goals in La Liga and the Champions League.
Despite their attacking success, strengthening the defence remains a potential priority for the club as they assess options for future transfer windows.
