Anchorage man charged in alleged hotel assault

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A man named William Hill is charged with five counts of assault after an alleged altercation at an Anchorage hotel Sunday night, according to charging documents filed Monday.

Alaska’s News Source confirmed that the man is not the political candidate running for Alaska’s sole U.S. House seat. A reporter reached out to the campaign for Bill Hill, who is running against primary and incumbent Nick Begich III. Hill’s campaign confirmed the defendant allegedly involved in the Sunday night assault is not the man running for Congress.

In a statement provided to the newsroom, the campaign said the candidate denies any interaction with law enforcement Sunday night and was staying at his daughter’s house in Anchorage, not the hotel. Alaska’s News Source spoke with hotel staff, who said a man named Bill Hill was checked into the hotel but did not have any record of a police presence Sunday night.

The Alaska Department of Law alleges that Hill, the man not running for office, recklessly caused serious physical injury and committed two counts of third-degree assault and two counts of fourth-degree assault.

The charges stem from a reported disturbance around 11:55 p.m. Oct. 11 at Staybridge Suites in Midtown Anchorage, according to the charging documents.

Police were dispatched after a woman called 911 and reported being stabbed and bleeding from a finger, prosecutors wrote. Officers said they found the woman in a hotel room with blood on her and observed broken glass, a knocked-over chair and blood on the floor and other surfaces.

The woman told police she met Hill, 42, on an online dating app and had been at his hotel room since about 7 p.m. She alleged he became angry after she refused to have sex, broke a drinking glass, slapped her, forcibly kissed her and put his hands around her neck while threatening her.

The defendant William Hill appeared on Monday for an in-custody arraignment from Anchorage Jail Court, where his bail was set at $2,500 cash performance along with a no contact order with the victim or the hotel.

He has a representation hearing set for Oct. 20 and a Rule 5 hearing set for Oct. 22. The charging document lists no prior Alaska convictions for Hill.
