A Woman Receives Ksh 150,000 Via M-Pesa Before Being Arrested By Police In Bungoma

Kenya’s anti-corruption agency, the EACC, has arrested a teacher from Friends School Kamusinga Boys High School in Bungoma County.

The teacher, Lilian Nelima Buluma, was arrested on October 12, 2026. Three unemployed teachers had complained that she had asked them for bribes.

Investigators say she asked each of the three for KSh 100,000, which adds up to KSh 300,000 in total.

They also found that she had already received KSh 150,000 through M-Pesa.

She allegedly claimed she knew people at the TSC and in other government offices who could influence hiring and get the three teachers’ jobs.

The case highlights how job seekers can be cheated by people who claim to have “connections” and promise jobs for a fee.

The TSC is the body that hires teachers for public schools in Kenya, so anyone looking for a teaching job should apply only through its official process and be wary of anyone asking for money.

After her arrest, Buluma was taken to the EACC Western Regional Office and then held at Bungoma Police Station while investigations continue.

She may be charged with asking for and receiving a bribe under the Anti Bribery Act of 2016. For now, these are only allegations, and the court process will decide the outcome.

The EACC is asking the public to report bribery and corruption. Job seekers should check recruitment details through official channels and report anyone who demands payment for a job.
