Twist in Opposition as This Prominent Figure Emerges as Sifuna’s Preferred Running Mate in 2027

A fresh political conversation has emerged after Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina met Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as opposition leaders continue exploring ways to unite ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The meeting, held at Sifuna’s Nairobi office on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, has attracted attention amid growing discussions about possible political alliances and leadership arrangements within the opposition.

Njeri Maina and Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango visited Sifuna to discuss how leaders could work together to strengthen the opposition and unite the country ahead of the next elections.

Following the meeting, Sifuna shared a message on social media describing the two leaders as solid people committed to the efforts to bring opposition leaders together.

The engagement has sparked speculation about whether Maina could play a bigger role in Sifuna’s political plans, including the possibility of becoming his running mate in the 2027 presidential race.

However, no official announcement has confirmed that Maina has been selected to deputise Sifuna. The meeting itself does not establish that the two leaders have agreed on a presidential ticket.

The latest development comes days after Maina called on opposition leaders seeking the presidency to put aside their differences and agree on one candidate to challenge President William Ruto.

During the burial of Mwalimu Jackson Karua, father of politician Martha Karua, on October 3, Maina urged leaders including Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i and Sifuna to resolve their differences and unite behind one candidate.

Her remarks placed her among the leaders publicly pushing for opposition unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

With political discussions continuing, attention is now turning to the possible alliances that could emerge in the coming months.

Do you think Njeri Maina would be a suitable running mate for Edwin Sifuna, or should the opposition consider other leaders? Share your views in the comments.
