Yinka Quadri Explains Why Yoruba Actors Are Backing Tinubu For Second Term

According to a report by The Vanguard on Monday, October 12, 2026, veteran Yoruba actor Yinka Quadri has explained why he and other practitioners in the film industry support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, pointing to the president’s long record of helping entertainers and his infrastructure projects.

Speaking in an interview on the African A-List programme, Quadri said the backing goes beyond personal gain. According to him, Tinubu has supported members of the industry since his days as governor of Lagos State.

“People do not understand it. It is not about what we want to eat. He has been taking care of those of us in the industry since he was the governor of Lagos,” he said.

The actor recalled how Tinubu covered the hospital bills of the late Nollywood star Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, while he was ill.

Quadri also spoke about the death of actress Moji Olaiya in Canada in 2017. He said he, Fathia Balogun, Yomi Fabiyi and other colleagues were struggling to raise funds to bring her remains home, so they visited Tinubu’s Bourdillon residence in Lagos.

“He asked us for the cost and paid it. It was a total of $25,000,” he said. The actors had reportedly asked for less than that amount.

Beyond his personal experiences, Quadri listed road projects in the South-West, including the Papalanto to Sagamu and Sagamu to Ijebu-Ode routes, as another reason for his support.

He admitted the work does not cover all the region’s needs. “I know it is not enough, but I praise him,” he said.

He also commended the payment of pensions to retirees and the operations of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
