Russia: I Made The Right Choice For The American People — Always, America First – Trump
According to a report by Times Of India (TOI) on Monday October 12, 2026, US President Donald Trump has defended his administration’s decision to allow Russian diesel supplies into the United States, insisting that the move prioritises American interests despite criticism from Ukraine and renewed European sanctions against Moscow.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump accused the media of ignoring the European Union’s energy purchases from Russia, claiming the bloc had paid Moscow $250 billion for energy.
“The European Union paid Russia 250 Billion Dollars for Energy, and the Fake News Media doesn’t want to get near that story,” Trump wrote.
He further defended his decision, declaring, “I made the right choice for the American People — ALWAYS, AMERICA FIRST!”
The proposed arrangement has drawn criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who believes additional Russian energy revenue could help finance Moscow’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
Zelenskyy welcomed the European Union’s latest sanctions against Russia, describing them as the “right and necessary signal” towards ending the conflict. The measures target 1,569 individuals and entities connected to Russia’s military-industrial network, including 826 companies and 743 individuals serving as chief executive officers.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas maintained that continued economic pressure was necessary to end the war.
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy accused Russia of continuing attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure despite a proposed energy ceasefire announced by Trump. He said six energy facilities were attacked, leaving 33 people injured across the country.
Trump announced that Russia would supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel immediately, followed by additional shipments in November and subsequent months. He thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for agreeing to provide what he described as “massive amounts” of diesel.
Putin also defended the proposed supplies, arguing that making Russian petroleum products available to American and international markets could positively affect the global economy. The arrangement has highlighted differences between Washington’s energy policy and Brussels’ continued efforts to restrict Russian revenues.
