REVEALED: Why Raila Odinga’s Doctor Used Electric Shocks on Him After He Fainted During Exercise

Details have emerged on why doctors used electrical shocks on Raila Odinga after he collapsed during a morning walk in India.

According to Maurice Ogeta, doctors tried to save the former Kenyan Prime Minister using electrical shocks after he suddenly collapsed while exercising in Kerala, India.Ogeta, Raila’s long-time bodyguard, shared the emotional account during an interview with KTN News, explaining what happened during the veteran politician’s final moments.

The incident occurred on October 15, 2025, when Raila was receiving treatment at a facility in Kerala.

Ogeta said he and Raila had gone for their usual morning exercise around the facility’s grounds. The route was about 50 metres long, and Raila planned to complete five rounds.

The first round went smoothly. However, halfway through the second, Raila suddenly stopped and made a faint sound.

Ogeta, who was walking about one metre away, asked whether Raila was experiencing back or leg pain.

Raila did not respond. His eyes appeared distant before he lost his balance and fell against his bodyguard. An ambulance was called, and Raila was rushed to Devamatha Hospital in Koothattukulam for emergency treatment.

Ogeta recalled watching doctors press firmly on Raila’s chest as they tried to revive him.

The procedure, known as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, worried him because he feared the force could break Raila’s ribs.

He raised his concerns with Dr Lumi, who explained that rib injuries can occur during CPR because doctors must apply sufficient pressure to help blood circulate.

Ogeta became more worried when medical staff prepared equipment to deliver electrical shocks in an attempt to restore Raila’s normal heart rhythm.

He also noticed a Bible, a candle and a piece of cloth being placed nearby.

The sight frightened him, prompting him to question whether Raila could still be saved.

According to the account, Raila arrived at the hospital without a detectable pulse or blood pressure after suffering cardiac arrest.

Despite the doctors’ efforts, he was pronounced dead on October 15, 2025, aged 80.

Ogeta later broke down when Raila’s body arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

He described the former prime minister as more than an employer, remembering him as a mentor, close friend and father figure.
