Real Madrid plan to challenge two refereeing decisions against Villarreal – report
According to a report by Madrid Universal on Monday, October 12, 2026, Real Madrid are considering appeals against two refereeing decisions from their 1-0 victory over Villarreal, involving Ibrahima Konaté’s yellow card and Vinícius Júnior’s red card.
The Spanish giants are reportedly prioritising an appeal against Konaté’s booking, which was issued in the 81st minute. The club believe the contact involved in the incident was insufficient to warrant a caution and are confident they have grounds to contest the decision.
The booking could have important consequences for the defender, who is reportedly on four yellow cards this season. Should the appeal fail and Konaté receive another caution against Sevilla, he could be suspended for the upcoming El Clásico against Barcelona.
Real Madrid are also unhappy with Vinícius’ dismissal after VAR footage showed the Brazilian forward pulling the hair of Villarreal defender Nathan Saliba. Although the club reportedly acknowledge that the action could justify a red card, they are frustrated by what they perceive as inconsistencies in the application of VAR during other matches this season.
The report further claims that Madrid have identified three other incidents in which they believe serious offences were not adequately reviewed by VAR. However, these remain the club’s complaints, rather than established cases of refereeing errors.
Vinícius’ disciplinary case is particularly significant, as the outcome could affect his availability for the El Clásico scheduled for October 25. Real Madrid will now await the relevant disciplinary decisions as they seek clarity over the possible consequences of both incidents.
