Maryam Nawaz blames 13 years of incompetence for KP’s political crisis

Maryam Nawaz Sharif has blamed 13 years of incompetence and political instability for the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying the responsibility for discussions about governor’s rule and a state of emergency lies with those who governed the province, not its people.

In a post on X, Maryam said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had received nothing but sit-ins, chaos, abusive rhetoric and social media trends over the past 13 years.

“If there is talk of governor’s rule and a state of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today, the fault lies not with the people, but with thirteen years of incompetence,” she said.

Maryam questioned why Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had followed different development paths despite being part of the same country, operating under the same Constitution and receiving funds from the same national exchequer.

She said the difference between the two provinces was not resources but intent and competence.

Comparing governance in the two provinces, Maryam said Punjab had focused on public services, education, healthcare and infrastructure, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had remained occupied with political activities.

She questioned why Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could not maintain cleanliness, provide scholarships to talented students or introduce green electric buses when Punjab had undertaken such initiatives.

Maryam said Punjab had extended paved roads to villages, while roads in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained incomplete.

She also referred to Punjab’s healthcare initiatives, including free medicines, field hospitals and Clinics on Wheels, and questioned why similar facilities were not available to patients in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Referring to security concerns, Maryam said mothers in Punjab were free from worry while those in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lived in fear. She accused the province’s previous leadership of prioritizing marches on Islamabad over public safety.

She said the answer to the differences between the two provinces was 13 years of chaos and incompetence.

“Punjab has proven that governments are run not by tall talk, but by work, work, and more work,” Maryam said.

She said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa now needed public service rather than political chaos.
