EC Chairperson Jean Mensa Arrives at Jubilee House, Welcomed by NDC’s Asiedu Nketiah and Fifi Kwetey

Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa has arrived at Jubilee House, where she was received by National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and General Secretary Fifi Kwetey.

Her arrival at the seat of government signals the start of proceedings expected to centre on the swearing-in of the commission’s newly appointed deputy chairpersons. The presence of the two senior NDC officials to welcome her added a notable political dimension to the event, drawing attention given the traditionally sensitive relationship between political parties and the electoral body.

The warm reception suggested a moment of cordiality between the EC leadership and one of the country’s major political parties, a scene that contrasts with the often tense exchanges that characterise interactions between electoral officials and political actors during competitive election periods.

Jean Mensa’s arrival at Jubilee House comes as the commission prepares to formally install Emelia Afi Agbenyo and Dr Joseph Kweku Asamoah as Deputy Chairpersons. The two were appointed by President John Dramani Mahama to fill vacancies left by recent departures in the commission’s senior ranks.

Dr Bossman Asare, formerly in charge of Corporate Affairs, resigned effective July 31, 2026, while Samuel Tettey, the former Deputy Chairperson responsible for Operations, retired upon reaching the mandatory retirement age. The new appointees are expected to restore the commission’s full leadership structure and strengthen its capacity to carry out its mandate.

The gathering of key figures from both the electoral body and the political sphere underscores the significance stakeholders attach to the EC’s leadership, particularly as it continues to manage the country’s electoral processes and maintain public confidence in its work.
