Delhi Police Register FIR Naming Arvind Kejriwal Over Bangla Sahib Gurdwara Incident
The complaint, filed by DSGMC president Harmeet Singh Kalka, names AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, party leaders and MLAs. It alleges that AAP members entered the gurdwara premises and raised slogans. The complaint also accuses party leaders of sharing videos on social media that allegedly misrepresented the incident and blamed the gurdwara management.
According to Delhi Police sources, an investigation has been initiated and officers are examining video footage submitted with the complaint. Further details of the FIR were not immediately available.
The development comes amid a controversy over the presence of protesters at the gurdwara during the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) October 10 demonstration in Delhi.
CJP co-convenor Saurav Das had alleged that police personnel entered the religious premises wearing shoes and carrying weapons while attempting to detain protesters. He also claimed that officers pressured the gurdwara management to remove the demonstrators.
Hundreds of protesters who were reportedly unable to enter Jantar Mantar during the demonstration went to Bangla Sahib Gurdwara, situated near the Election Commission of India’s office.
On Sunday, gurdwara chairman Bhupinder Singh Bhullar said he, Kalka and other DSGMC members had met the Deputy Commissioner of Police and submitted a complaint regarding the incident.
Bhullar said visitors were welcome to come to the gurdwara to pray, have langar and rest, adding that accommodation, medical facilities and other assistance would be provided when needed. However, he said demonstrations would not be permitted inside the religious premises, irrespective of the political party involved.
Delhi Police, meanwhile, rejected allegations that personnel had entered the gurdwara’s prayer area wearing shoes. In a statement, the force said the circulated footage showed personnel walking through a common passage used by devotees to reach the point where footwear is removed.
Police alleged that the video had been circulated with malicious intent to hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community and said legal action was being initiated.
