Delhi Metro Reopens All Stations After Security Restrictions Amid Central Delhi Protests
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Monday evening announced that entry and exit gates at all Metro stations across the network had been reopened after temporary restrictions were imposed at six stations in central Delhi amid security concerns linked to protests.
In a post on X around 5 p.m., the DMRC said, “Entry and exit gates of all Metro Stations of the Delhi Metro network are now open. The interchange facility at all the concerned Metro stations is also available.”
Earlier in the day, the DMRC had suspended entry and exit facilities at six stations—Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Janpath, Mandi House and Barakhamba Road—from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The restrictions were imposed as the Congress-led INDIA bloc prepared to hold a protest march towards the Supreme Court. The DMRC cited security concerns and said the situation would be reviewed by security agencies before further decisions were taken.
In an earlier advisory, the corporation said Metro stations across the network could be temporarily closed intermittently for security reasons. It advised commuters to follow updates on the DMRC’s official social media channels and website regarding closures and reopening of stations.
Although entry and exit facilities at the six affected stations were suspended, interchange facilities remained available throughout the restriction period.
Monday’s restrictions came two days after authorities temporarily closed 45 Metro stations in view of a protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
