Arshdeep Singh Enjoys Reverse Swing at Death as India Beat West Indies to Take 2-1 Lead
Arshdeep was named Player of the Match for his figures of 3/44 as India successfully defended a target of 224 to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
The left-arm fast bowler struck early by dismissing in-form opener Shai Hope in the second over. Although Kamil Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer scored in the 40s, India kept the visitors under pressure and prevented them from gaining sustained momentum in the chase.
The West Indies remained in contention while Sherfane Rutherford was at the crease, but Arshdeep produced a superb yorker to shatter his middle stump before dismissing Keemo Paul to seal India’s victory.
Reflecting on his performance, Arshdeep said the conditions made bowling at the end of the innings particularly enjoyable.
“It was pretty nice, the ball was reversing a bit and it’s always pretty fun to bowl at the death with some reverse swing,” he told broadcasters after the match.
Asked how the team supports a bowler going through a difficult outing, Arshdeep said the dressing room maintained a relaxed and supportive atmosphere, with players encouraging one another after setbacks.
“There is no such thing as a leader or senior in the team. It’s a chill environment and anytime someone has a bad day, we put an arm around our shoulders and tell them it’s fine,” he said.
He added that international cricket inevitably brings both good and bad days, and welcomed challenges from aggressive batters as an opportunity to test his skills and mental strength.
Arshdeep also stressed the importance of adapting quickly to changing conditions, saying he tries to arrive early and practise with both the new and old ball.
“The team that adapts early comes out on the right side of the result,” he said.
India and the West Indies will meet in the fourth T20I at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday, before concluding the series at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on October 17.
