11-year-olds accused of throwing rocks at cars, recklessly riding e-bikes in North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two 11-year-olds were charged after allegedly throwing rocks at passing vehicles in south Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Officials said they responded to Blakeney Heath Road and Ardrey Kell Road about a report of juveniles on e-bikes throwing rocks at passing vehicles. Officers saw two e-bikes being ridden unsafely and at a high rate of speed.

A traffic stop was attempted on the juveniles. One of them eventually stopped, and the other reportedly fled, but was identified and found a short time later at a nearby residence.

CMPD said that both bikes were seized and both 11-year-olds were charged with failure to heed lights & sirens and no operator’s license. They were released to their guardians.

“CMPD remains committed to keeping our roadways and communities safe,” police said in a statement.
